01 Introduction and Workflow Setup

What will be the workflow and protocols for this class?

Homework: Learning Agreement, Setup accounts

Vocabulary: p5js, pair programming protocol, turn-and-talk protocol

Pair Programming Protocol:
  • Drivers are focused on the line by line coding, and making things work algorithmically and syntactically.
  • Navigators are both working on the abstract “big picture”, and keeping a second eye on the code to catch errors. It’s best when pairs switch frequently - if both students can successfully switch roles, they will almost always come up with a stronger idea executed in a cleaner program.
Turn and Talk Protocol
  • Students are divided into pairs and assigned the same or different questions or texts for discussion
  • Round 1: Partner A is given less than one minute to share his or her response to the question provided by including words, phrases, sentences, and/or passages that support his/her thinking, utilizing target vocabulary. Partner B should not yet respond.
  • Round 2: Partner B is given less than one minute to share his or her response to the question provided by including words, phrases, sentences, and/or passages that support his/her thinking.
  • Round 3: Both students are given one minute to converse with one another and to agree with, disagree with, or add onto the contributions made by their partner and to discuss how their thinking has evolved or changed since the start of the conversation that has helped to construct meaning.
